The finishing touch By Ana

The finishing touch
The last minute, we were so happy that we got it finished. It was the last day to finish until the exhibition, me and my group were jumping around in the hub with excitement.

First, we replayed the film like a million times and laughed like  a million times. We were having such a great time.

Secondly, We asked people to come and watch our film, while some were watching some people gave us feedback and feedforward, that made me and my group feel good inside.

Finally, We checked it once again and then we said to ourselves "it's perfect and amazing".

After all those hard times we got it done and that's all that matters to me.

Snapshot recount breakthrough exhibition - By Natasha

WALHT: describe a moment in time from the Breakthrough exhibition with detail (snapshot recount) - 29.8.16
The Crowded Table

Boring, boring, boring. "We've been waiting here forever and no one has showed up!" I said.

We arrived in the hub (at 6.15pm) to present our breakthrough to learners and visitors from Stonefields school and the community.  "It's already six thirty and we have only got about four visitors that had come to try our art!" Said Mia. We all sighed we knew we were going to be here for an hour just walking around.

Then all of a sudden People raced into the hub like a stampede of elephants. We all gasped with surprise. It's amazing, how did this happen? I thought. People were crowding around the table and our art. Everyone wanted to try out the art. There were so many people that Mia and I had to race all the way down to hub 9 to get some more sieves.

Finally, It was 7.30pm! People started to go home. Mia, Jenny and I started to pack up. (Although Jenny had to leave a bit early.) By the end of that night we were completely exhausted but also relieved to have people come. At the start we didn't think anyone would come! We had so much fun although it was quite tiring, trying to control everyone. I can't wait to do something like this again!

Information report red fox - By Natasha

The Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes)

"Is that a dog or a wolf?"

The Red Fox are very unique and amazing animals.Foxes sound a lot like dogs or wolves when they bark and when foxes fight or are playing with each other they sound like ducks! The reason they sound like Dogs/wolves is because foxes are in the dog family.

Appearance
The red fox has a mix of orange/brown and white and black fur around its body. It has white fur from the bottom of its nose all the way down to the end of its tail. There is black fur on its legs, parts of  the tail and the middle of its ears. The rest of the Red foxes body is orange/brown.

Most of the Red Foxes eye colours are brown, some are green. The Red Fox has very sharp teeth to help kill its prey so it survives in the wild. Therefore, you probably wouldn't keep a fox as a pet. A Red Foxes nose is pointy and black, just like a dog's nose.

Habitat
Red foxes are mostly found in North America, Russia and Europe. They also live in snowy areas and forests. Wild foxes make dens in forests for them and their family to live in. In North America foxes sometimes are found living in cities and make alleyways as their home/den.

Diet
Red Foxes are omnivores. An omnivore eats both insects and meat. The Red fox eats food, such as mice, fish, birds, rabbits/hares and all types of insects.

Behaviour and Protection
In winter it can get really cold for foxes. Especially if they are living in the snow. That's why they have many layers of fur to help them survive throughout periods of winter. The Red foxes are great runners because if they weren't then they wouldn't be able to catch prey and run away predators like Wolves, Coyotes and Jackals. They are also good jumpers because when they need to eat they will sometimes need to jump into the snow to catch prey and if it runs away it must be able to leap and jump fast.

Did you know that there were around thirty-seven species of foxes? The most common ones are the: red fox, grey fox, fennec fox, swift fox, kit fox and arctic fox. Every fox looks different, all of them are unique. The Red foxes are very fascinating and beautiful animals because of its colours. Foxes have a very interesting history and they have survived many years.

Persuasive (why scooting should be allowed at school) - By Nasha

WALHT: communicate why something is important (Persuade)

Scooting should be allowed in school

I believe that scooting should be allowed at school during any time. Here are three reasons why I think it should be allowed at school.

The first reason why I think scooting should be allowed at school is because it helps you to build muscle. It builds a lot of muscle in your legs because you have to use your strength in your legs to help you push yourself forward. After you have pushed yourself for about five or ten minutes your legs can already get tired because you are doing so much work. That is proof that it is building your muscle and if you don't believe me try it yourself!

Scootering doesn't just build muscle in your legs it also keeps you fit because all your body parts are working together. (Legs to push, arms to steer, body to balance and brain to decide where you're going!)

The most important reason why scootering should be allowed at school is because it's an extra activity to do after school. Some children don't get the opportunity to do it. It might be  because their parents are too busy with work and they aren't able to take them to scoot or maybe you've got an after school activity and you aren't able to scoot because the person taking care of you has other plans.

My final reason why it's important to scoot is to have fun! With a scooter you can do lots of things like have races, scoot down a hill, do tricks and much more. You can also ride to your friends house on a scooter. A scooter is a fun way to transport yourself to a destination.

I think scooting should be allowed at school you just need to ride on the courts or the school  could build a small skate park next to the court, near the sand pit.

Scooting should be allowed at school because it will get you fit,  another activity that you can do at school and it's really fun.

Persuasive (why time travel is the best superpower) - By Natasha

WALHT: communicate why something is important (Persuade)                            Plan

Why time travel is the best superpower for me

Super speed, teleportation, flying, super strength. There are so many but if I were to choose one I would pick time travel. Here are four reasons why.

The first reason why time travel is useful is because you travel to the past or the future to help others and yourself get out of problems. There are lots of poor people around the world. Wouldn't it be nice to go help someone they would appreciate it and so would everyone else. Imagine being known as 'The Saver' The person who saved lives. You could help them by bringing them food or money.

What happened if one day in the future people lost some of the things that we use to have. You would be able to travel back to the past, fetch them and take them to the future.

The second reason why I think time travel is a great superpower is because it can help you when you are struggling with something at school. It might come to a time when you're struggling at school and that's why time travel can actually come in really handy. You can just go back home and ask your parents or google it. You could also time travel to the future because i'm sure by the time you are older you should know it.

I'm sure you've felt like this at least once before. It's when your Mum and Dad asks you to come do a job for them but you really don't  want to. For example they ask you to come do the dishes and you can't say no to them otherwise they'll ask you to do more so you have to go do it. Wouldn't it be great to be able to time travel a couple minutes later after you have finished the job. Don't you think that will be cool?

Another reason why I think time traveling is the best super power is because it's super fun. There are lot's of fun occasion that happen in life and it would be awesome to be able to go back and relive that moment. What happened if one day in the past you were having a really fun time but right now you were bored you could just time travel to go back to that timer by thinking of the place, clicking your fingers and saying "let's go!" (For example it could be your birthday party.)

The final reason why I think time traveling is the best super power is because you can learn new things and experience other ways of doing them.  You can travel to the future or the past and figure out new, quicker or funner ways of doing things.
You can also go visit the future to find out what you need to get prepared for a disaster. For example if a bad storm was going to happen.

That was four reasons why time travel is the best superpower. It can Help others and yourself, Solve problems if you're struggling at school or home, it's fun and you can experience new things!

Persuasive (Why I think I should have a dog. - To parents) - By Natasha

20.6.16
WALHT: communicate why something is important (Persuade)                            Plan

Why I think we should have a Dog!

Wouldn't you like to be able to come home and see a kind, loving pet waiting for you at the door? All you would want to do is give it a great, big hug and then go snuggle up tight together on the couch, Right? I think a dog is one of the best pets to have if not the best. People say that dogs can help you live longer. Dogs can also smell a thousand times better than humans so if you're trying to find something. They can sniff out things like bed bugs which i'm sure  you won't want. This text will show you why spending money on a dog is worth it.

Firstly, I am responsible enough to take care of a  dog. I promise I will clean up after the dog. For example if the dog was running around in the house and he tipped or broke something I will clean the  mess up.

I  will also take the dog for walks because it is important that the dog has good exercise. Without it having exercise it would just be a fat and lazy dog. I assure  you  that, that won't happen. I will take good care of the dog.For example we all want to stay fit so we can take a family walk together with the dog! One of the main reasons why you  probably saying no to getting a dog is who's picking up the dog poo? The answer is me, yes I'll do it. For example When we're going on a family walk and the dog goes to the toilet on the side of the path I will pick it up. If I haven't persuaded you yet then maybe the rest of my writing will.

There are these places where you can temporarily take care of a dog. (For example you can get it from a foster, SPCA, Pets on the net and there are much more.) I know what you probably thinking, once we have to give the  dog back i'll be sad and i'll miss it but no. We'll just get another one! We have the dog for a couple weeks, we get a break for a couple weeks and then we get another dog. It's also great because they pay for the dog food  and  dog food can be really expensive.

Secondly, I had a dog when I was younger. You may think that having a dog when I was younger doesn't mean anything but it does. It means I know how to act around the dog. For example how to approach it. (Walk up to it slowly, let it sniff you  first and get use to you.)

I had fun with the dog and the dog had fun with me. Think about. I play with the  dog = you have more  time to work. Isn't that a good deal?

Finally, I can play with it in my spare time. Even though we don't have spare  time that much, the spare time i'm talking about it is when i'm  watching TV and I watch TV quite a lot. So it works out for the both of us, you get the TV and I get to play with the dog.(For example we can play fetch.)

That was three reasons why I think we should get a dog. I'm responsible enough, I had a dog when I was younger and I can  play with it in my spare time. If those three ideas didn't persuade you then there's nothing  more I can  do.

Narrative - Summarising Roald Dahl story (The Witches?) - By Natasha

The Witches - By Roald Dahl (Learning to summarise)

Once upon a time….
there lived a little boy and his grandmother in a small, quiet street. One night while the little boy was having dinner he asked his grandmother "Are witches real?" His grandmother replied "They definitely are!" "What do they look like?" Asked the little boy.  "They have a magical snake. But don't worry about that. It can't do anything to you, it's fake! The witches are disguised in make-up  so they will look normal.  Then they will sniff you, and their eyes will turn purple. To them you smell like a warthog but to me you smell like a rose."

"How do you know all this Grandma?" asked the little boy. "Look what they did to my finger one day when they were trying to catch me." "Yikes!" Shouted the little boy. Half her thumb was cut off! "What should I do if they try catch me grandma?" Said the little boy. "Just scream as loud as you can!" Replied his grandmother.

One day it happened. A witch came to the house! She said to Charlie "Little boy, Little boy I have a chocolate for you!" Charlie was about to come down when he saw her sniffing. Her eyes then turned purple and she pulled out her snake, It was bright orange. He quickly climbed up to the top of the tree remembering what his grandmother had told him and he screamed at the top of his lungs "Grandma, Grandma a witch, a witch!" His grandma came running out. The witch ran away and after a while the snake faded away and Charlie came down.

A couple of weeks later Charlie and his grandmother decided to go on a holiday. One day, while they were on the holiday Charlie's grandmother saw something terrible… The witch! But she had this feeling that it wasn't just one witch. There were a whole lot more. Charlie was curious to figure out what his grandmother was looking at so he followed the women.

The witch took a big group of other witches to a meeting.. Soon a little boy came in he said to the women "Where is my bar of chocolate?" The woman said "you will get you chocolate. Don't worry." The rest of the group knew she was lying. Charlie didn't know that she was a witch until… she took a magic potion from her pocket and gave some of it it to the little boy without him knowing…..Charlie tried to stop her but he was too late…. and guess what happened….the potion turned the little boy into a mouse! The little mouse ran away through a little hole in the wall. Charlie tried to stop her from getting to him as well, but again he was too slow, and she turned him into a mouse as well.

Charlie, now a mouse himself, followed the other mouse. He told him his plan and the were both determined  to get revenge on the witches for turning him and his friend into mice. He went into the witch's room and looked for a potion. Finally Charlie found the potion!

He took It and went to the chef's kitchen immediately. They were about to serve the soup to the witches. Just before they did, Charlie put little parts of the potion into their soup. After the witches ate their soup they were turned into little mice except for the one witch that got sent to her room just before the soup had been served.

That Witch could either choose to be good and help change Charlie and his friend to become humans again or she could choose to help the witches . She chose to… help Charlie and his friend! She was so frustrated with the witches that she didn't feel like helping her at all. She went to Charlie's apartment and helped him and his friend. They were humans again! Charlie, his friend and his grandmother were so relieved and happy! Charlie and his friend lived together with Charlie's grandmother. And became best friends. And they lived happily ever after.

Recount (9th birthday) - By Natasha

My 9th Birthday

As I entered the door I heard people laughing and shouting. I couldn't wait to start. We went upstairs and put down our food. My friends came through the door with all the presents. My face lit up. I was elated. It was time to start climbing!

Some friends and I decided to go through to this room of adventure. First we climbed a few walls. Then we decided to try something else. We entered another room. We saw flashing white lights everywhere! We went down a dark slide. It was really fast. We ended up near another door.

We went through the door. It was almost like a pirate ship! Finally we got to the top! We saw a sculpture of a pirate. I saw a ladder in front of me and decided to climb it. We could see the whole room from there! Rock Climbing walls, the slide and big white flashing lights. As I was going down I saw the wheel of the pirate ship. We yelled "arrgghh!" while swinging our arms back and forth. we all fell to the ground with laughter.

My mum called us. It was time to go eat. We all wedged our way through the door and back upstairs to sit in our seats. We ate some delicious treats. Then it was time for me to blow out the candles on my cake. My friends and family sang me happy birthday. We each got two slices of cake because there were two different types of cake! One carrot and one chocolate because I couldn't decide which one to buy at the shop.

After that we decided to go climb up some more rock climbing walls. Some of us raced each other. After the last race we were all completely exhausted! It was time to go home. As soon as I got home I collapsed on my bed and went to sleep. After a while I woke up and decided to open my presents. They were the best presents I ever got and the best party I ever had. That's why my ninth birthday is so special to me!

The best part of me By Mia Rose

The best part of me
The best part of me is my legs because they can help me walk. If I didn't have legs I wouldn't be able to do anything.
They also help me when I do ballet because I have to stretch my legs very hard. I also like my legs because they are a really flexible part of my body. My legs are also very important because they can help me climb hills and mountains. I also use them for Running in the athletics and cross country, jumping on trampolines, skipping along the footpath to school and hopping in the sack races. It is important to do these things because I really enjoy them because they're really fun. I also like the color because in the summer my legs get really tanned and I really like the brown color. Without my legs most of my talents will not be possible like dancing, swimming and balancing. The thing I like the most about my legs is that they help me to play with my friends.

The best part of me!! Shay

The best part of me

The best part of me is my elbow because if I did not have my elbow I could not eat, sleep, run, swim, have fun, climb, carry stuff and much more. If I couldn't carry stuff I wouldn't be able to carry my plate to the kitchen I wouldn't be able to rock climb and that means having fun. Having fun also includes swimming and running I wouldn't be able to swim because I bend my arms when I do freestyle and much more swimming styles. I wouldn't be able to run because I bend my arms near my hips when I run. I couldn't eat because I can't bring my hand to my mouth and that means I would starve to death. I wouldn't be able to sleep because I bend my arms and I put my hands under my head when I sleep, I wouldn't be able to do any of those things without my elbow that's why I love my elbows

Little animals - By carys

Little animals

There once were 2 friends, one was a rat, who was really fat. The other was a deer who was friends with the bat. As a butterfly flew right past, a really big cheater came running fast. A really smart owl snoring away, and a Kangaroo bouncing all day. A giraffe as tall as a tree, and collecting nectar is a honey bee. A poisonous snake slithering through, and a patterned cow saying moo! it got dark the moon shone bright. Everyone went to bed and turned out the light. Little animals, Good night!

Turtles.

Are turtles and tortoises the same?

People are often confused between the two. The big difference between turtles and tortoises, is that turtles are mainly water based where as tortoises dwell on land. Turtles are known as reptiles. There are 400 species of turtle and some species are known as pets but the majority of the species are wild and mainly live in the ocean.

Here are some facts/info you need to know about turtles if you want to get one.

Appearance
The appearance is based on it's looks and uniqueness. Its body is straight and slightly bumpy. Its shell is tall and delicate because if you try and smash it, it may break if you smash hard enough. It has long slightly curved arms that are used to help them swim while hunting for food. They have flippers that can help them swim and crawl away. Turtles have not very sharp teeth but they can still eat very rock solid things. Turtles have very unusual things about them but that is what makes them unique.

Habitat
Turtles usually enjoy living in tropical environments where it is hot. Most turtles spend their days in the water but at night they come to shores on some tropical beaches in countries like Chile and Argentina located in South America. Turtles prefer to nest on warm beaches usually hidden from danger. Turtles can live in any ocean of the world. They spend most of their lives in the sea because that's where they can feed and live.
Only the females come to shore on beaches when they nest. Some turtles seek out on land away to hide from danger and from getting hurt

Protection
Turtles are an endangered species and in order for them not to become extinct they need a lot of protection from harmful predators. Their main protection is the strength of their hard shell. When turtles sense danger they pull their head into their shell for protection. Humans are very harmful to turtles because then people are fishing and let nets into the oceans some turtles get caught in the nets. This is where turtles can't protect themselves. Protection is one of the main parts in their lives so it doesn't kill them and so if the turtles get in anymore danger they will have some strength to save themselves.

Diet
Wild turtles eat a lot of water based plants, but also eat a fair amount of sea insects, sea worms and even dead marine life. Protein from all of these food sources is very important for a wild turtle and they need to grow in order to maintain long survival. But the species of turtle does depend on the diet, for example sea turtles feed on sea based food where as green sea turtles mainly feed on vegetation. But most wild sea turtles feed on meat when they are young and as they age feed on more plants and vegetation.

You may not of been aware of some things at the start but you might be now. Humans should look after turtles and protect them because they are important like all other animals in nature. So if you want to buy a turtle then you need to take good care of him or her.

These are about the body parts and what they do to it live.
