The Witches - By Roald Dahl (Learning to summarise)

Once upon a time….
there lived a little boy and his grandmother in a small, quiet street. One night while the little boy was having dinner he asked his grandmother "Are witches real?" His grandmother replied "They definitely are!" "What do they look like?" Asked the little boy.  "They have a magical snake. But don't worry about that. It can't do anything to you, it's fake! The witches are disguised in make-up  so they will look normal.  Then they will sniff you, and their eyes will turn purple. To them you smell like a warthog but to me you smell like a rose."

"How do you know all this Grandma?" asked the little boy. "Look what they did to my finger one day when they were trying to catch me." "Yikes!" Shouted the little boy. Half her thumb was cut off! "What should I do if they try catch me grandma?" Said the little boy. "Just scream as loud as you can!" Replied his grandmother.

One day it happened. A witch came to the house! She said to Charlie "Little boy, Little boy I have a chocolate for you!" Charlie was about to come down when he saw her sniffing. Her eyes then turned purple and she pulled out her snake, It was bright orange. He quickly climbed up to the top of the tree remembering what his grandmother had told him and he screamed at the top of his lungs "Grandma, Grandma a witch, a witch!" His grandma came running out. The witch ran away and after a while the snake faded away and Charlie came down.

A couple of weeks later Charlie and his grandmother decided to go on a holiday. One day, while they were on the holiday Charlie's grandmother saw something terrible… The witch! But she had this feeling that it wasn't just one witch. There were a whole lot more. Charlie was curious to figure out what his grandmother was looking at so he followed the women.

The witch took a big group of other witches to a meeting.. Soon a little boy came in he said to the women "Where is my bar of chocolate?" The woman said "you will get you chocolate. Don't worry." The rest of the group knew she was lying. Charlie didn't know that she was a witch until… she took a magic potion from her pocket and gave some of it it to the little boy without him knowing…..Charlie tried to stop her but he was too late…. and guess what happened….the potion turned the little boy into a mouse! The little mouse ran away through a little hole in the wall. Charlie tried to stop her from getting to him as well, but again he was too slow, and she turned him into a mouse as well.

Charlie, now a mouse himself, followed the other mouse. He told him his plan and the were both determined  to get revenge on the witches for turning him and his friend into mice. He went into the witch's room and looked for a potion. Finally Charlie found the potion!

He took It and went to the chef's kitchen immediately. They were about to serve the soup to the witches. Just before they did, Charlie put little parts of the potion into their soup. After the witches ate their soup they were turned into little mice except for the one witch that got sent to her room just before the soup had been served.

That Witch could either choose to be good and help change Charlie and his friend to become humans again or she could choose to help the witches . She chose to… help Charlie and his friend! She was so frustrated with the witches that she didn't feel like helping her at all. She went to Charlie's apartment and helped him and his friend. They were humans again! Charlie, his friend and his grandmother were so relieved and happy! Charlie and his friend lived together with Charlie's grandmother. And became best friends. And they lived happily ever after.
